I didn't drill the first hole mentioned. I drilled four holes around the exhaust outlet. I spaced them evenly around the outlet, in a "X" pattern. They are 1/2 inch holes. When I first started the bike after doing the modification, I thought I sounded a little high pitched, but once I rode it, I loved it! One reason that I may have liked it so much is that it didn't cost a thing!
Everyone has their own ideal sound, so my sound might not be what you're looking for. But good luck with trying!
